El Instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi, es la entidad encargada de producir el mapa oficial y la cartografía básica de Colombia, debido a la gran cantidad de información geográfica por la extensión del territorio nacional, el IGAC ha adoptado una serie de diversas metodologías, manuales de procedimientos, guías y especificaciones técnicas como base para el desarrollo de diversos productos que deben ser implementadas por funcionarios del Instituto. Un ejemplo es el Manual de Procedimientos de Levantamientos Topográficos el cual debe asegurar que la metodología adoptada por el personal del instituto para su ejecución sea la adecuada, según el alcance del proyecto, la utilidad, el insumo final y la necesidad del cliente que puede ser interno o externo. Por esto nace la necesidad en la entidad de tener una metodología clara y actualizada, para realizar los proyectos que tienen como base un levantamiento topográfico bajo una misma serie de pautas. En la búsqueda de realizar un Manual de Procedimientos congruente con los requerimientos del IGAC se desarrollaron mesas de trabajo sistemáticas con el estudiante y el Grupo Interno de Trabajo Control Terrestre y Clasificación de Campo; donde se ajustaron a las metodologías requeridas y actualizaciones necesarias al documento, según la experiencia técnica y profesional de los funcionarios del Instituto.

That is why the need arises in the entity to have a clear and updated methodology, to carry out the projects that are based on a topographic survey under the same set of guidelines. In the search for a Procedures Manual consistent with IGAC requirements, systematic working groups were developed with the student and the Internal Work Group on Land Control and Field Classification; Where they conformed to the required methodologies and necessary updates to the document, according to the technical and professional experience of the Institute's staff.
