dc.descriptionCon este trabajo se evaluó la viabilidad financiera del establecimiento de veinte hectáreas de Jatropha curcas en Colombia, teniendo en cuenta factores técnicos de la especie, de localización del cultivo, de mercado del producto; y evidenciando las debilidades, amenazas, fortalezas y oportunidades relacionadas con este tipo de proyectos. La especie Jatropha pertenece a la familia Euphorbiaceae, es oleaginosa y el contenido de aceite en su semilla varía entre 30 y 40%. Por sus propiedades la planta es usada a nivel medicinal, en la industria cosmética, farmacéutica, como pesticida, lubricante, abono, enmienda para suelos y como fuente de energía renovable no convencional ya que es amigable con el ambiente pues se quema sin producir humos. Además es una planta que por su naturaleza goza de alta resistencia e incluso es utilizada para el control de erosión del suelo. Vale la pena resaltar que la demanda de biocombustibles en el mundo va incrementando año tras año debido a que la energía a partir de fuentes fósiles, por ser fuentes no renovables, cada vez es menor. El combustible a partir de Jatropha es limpio y ambientalmente amigable pues no contiene azufre y su balance de CO2 es igual a cero. Dentro de los grandes productores de aceite de Jatropha se encuentran China, India y Centro América. A nivel nacional existen aproximadamente 135,5 hectáreas sembradas, las cuales se encuentran en los departamentos de Vichada, Chocó, Santander, Cauca, Antioquia, Cesar y Nariño. El presente estudio tuvo en cuenta una producción que varía de acuerdo a la edad del cultivo, obteniéndose la máxima en el cuarto año correspondiente a 5 toneladas/hectárea/año. Además es una planta perenne lo que garantiza un aprovechamiento a largo plazo para el productor, de igual manera es posible combinar el cultivo de esta especie con cultivos agrícolas como maíz o fríjol, lo que permite una diversificación del negocio según los intereses del inversionista en cuestión, garantizando mayores beneficios económicos. Se definieron 20 hectáreas para el establecimiento del proyecto, con una densidad de siembra de 2 x 3 para un total de 1666 plántulas por hectárea. Se tuvo en cuenta que la producción varía de acuerdo al estado de maduración de la planta, de esta manera en los primeros años la producción se encuentra por debajo de las 3 toneladas por hectárea y a partir del cuarto año la misma se estabiliza entre 4 y 6 toneladas por hectárea/año. De acuerdo con los resultados del estudio, en materia financiera, el proyecto arrojó resultados favorables lo que lo convierte en viable como opción de inversión y por lo tanto rentable, la maximización de los beneficios estarán vinculados con el tamaño de la plantación pues entre más hectáreas plantadas mayor será el Beneficio neto. En cuanto a los indicadores financieros se obtuvo una TIR de 13%, VPN mayor a 46 millones de pesos, una relación beneficio costo mayor a 1, TVR igual a 12%, y un periodo de recuperación de capital igual a 6.01 años.
dc.descriptionThe main target of this investigation work is based on financial viability for 20 hectares Jathopa’s establishing in Colombia; considering location, technicalities, market factors and highlighting the weaknesses, threats, strengths and opportunities related to the project. Jatropha belongs to Euphorbiaceae family, it’s oily and the seeds oil content varies between 30 and 40%. Owing to its properties, the plant is used medicinally, in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry, as a pesticide, lubricant, fertilizer and as a non-conventional renewable energy source because it’s environmentally friendly, as it burns without smoking. Besides it’s a tree which nature it’s tolerance, has strengths and it is even used to control soil erosion. It’s worthwhile noting that world’s biofuels demand is increasing every year due to energy production from fossil sources is becoming smaller. The fuel from Jatropha is clean and environmentally friendly as it doesn’t contains sulfur and its CO2 balance is zero. Among the major Jatropha’s producers oil are China, India and Central America. Colombia has about 135.5 hectares planted, which are in Vichada, Chocó, Santander, Cauca, Antioquia, Cesar and Nariño. This study took into account a production’s variation according to the culture’s age, obtaining the maximum in the fourth year that appertain to 5 ton/ha/year. Furthermore it’s a perennial plant which ensures a long-term advantage to the producer, it’s also possible to combine the crop with agricultural crops as corn or beans, allowing business diversification according with investor’s interests. It were defined 20 hectares to establish the project, with a seeding density of 2x3 namely 1666 seedlings per hectare. The production varies according to the plant’s ripening, so initially the production is less than 3 tons per hectare and from the fourth year it is stabilized between 4 and 6 tons per hectare / year. Financially, the project yielded positive results making it as viable investment option and therefore profitable, maximizing the benefits will be linked to the plantation size, because the more planted hectares the higher the income will be. As for the financial indicators, It was obtained an IRR (real rate of return) equal to 13%, NPV (net present value) higher that 46 million pesos, a cost/benefit analysis greater than 1, real rate of return equal to 12%, and a capital’s payback period equal to 6.01 years.
