| dc.description | The Ephemeroptera are an order of insects very important in the benthic community, being bio-indicators of water quality, considering key conservation. Despite the dense hydrographic network of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), Colombia Caribbean region, knowledge of aquatic macroinvertebrates assemblage is insufficient; limnological studies have focused mostly on the Gaira River. The aim of this study was to determine the composition and structure of the order Ephemeroptera in eight basins of the SNSM. The samples were collected between October-November 2013. In situ physical and chemical parameters were measured; nutrients and microorganisms were analyzed in the laboratory. In addition, the taxonomic composition and abundance was determined; Likewise canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) with the physico-chemical and microbiological biological parameters was performed. 1924 individuals distributed in five families and 12 genera were collected. The most abundant taxa were Leptohyphes (25 %), Baetodes (25 %), and Prebaetodes (9 %). According to the CCA, the temperature was the variable that best explained the variance of the presence of taxa. The basins of the SNSM remain important reservoirs of diversity of aquatic organisms. The results are a contribution to the knowledge of the order Ephemeroptera. | |
| dc.description | Los Ephemeroptera son un orden de insectos de gran importancia en la comunidad béntica, por ser bioindicadores de la calidad del agua, considerándose claves para la conservación. A pesar de la densa red hidrográfica de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM), región Caribe de Colombia, el conocimiento de los ensamblajes de macroinvertebrados acuáticos es insuficiente. Los estudios limnológicos se han centrado mayormente en el río Gaira. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la composición y estructura del orden Ephemeroptera en ocho afluentes de la SNSM. Las muestras fueron colectadas entre octubre-noviembre de 2013. Se midieron parámetros físicos-químicos in situ, los nutrientes y microorganismos se analizaron en laboratorio. Además, se determinó la composición y la abundancia taxonómica; así mismo se realizó un análisis de correspondencia canónica (ACC) con los parámetros biológicos, físico-químicos y microbiológicos. Se colectaron un total de 1924 individuos distribuidos en 5 familias y 12 géneros. Los taxa más abundantes fueron Leptohyphes (25 %), Baetodes (25 %) y Prebaetodes (9 %). De acuerdo con el ACC la temperatura fue la variable que mejor explicó la varianza de la presencia de los taxones. Los afluentes de la SNSM son importantes reservorios de diversidad de organismos acuáticos. Los resultados obtenidos son un aporte al conocimiento del orden Ephemeroptera. | |
